Naomi Watts in Oscar de la Renta for her Big Day

On June 10th in New York, the 54-year-old actress exchanged vows with Billy Crudup in an admirable piece adorned with floral guipure, embodying the timeless elegance of Oscar de la Renta.
This Saturday, Naomi Watts joined the list of fabulous brides in Oscar de la Renta. Like Amal Clooney, Paris Hilton, and Allison Williams before her, the 54-year-old actress turned to the prestigious American fashion house for her wedding with actor Billy Crudup. Being in a relationship since 2017, the two actors sealed their union in Manhattan during an intimate ceremony.
Though the number of guests was small, the bride still made a statement with a gown featuring a spectacular embroidery work, entirely made of guipure, including the straps. The piece was designed by Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, the duo who took over the reins of the American brand two years after the couturier's passing in 2014.
Floral guipure lace, sweetheart neckline, and flared skirt—Naomi Watts' wedding dress exudes the delicacy of a custom creation. However, it is not. Part of the pre-fall 2023 collection, it is available on the MyTheresa website for the price of €5480. Translating this couture spirit into luxury ready-to-wear collections is the expertise of Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia. Both trained by Oscar de la Renta himself, Kim for a decade and Garcia for six years, they left the house after his passing to create their own brand: Monse. It was only a temporary goodbye.
When Peter Copping (appointed creative director just a week before Oscar de la Renta's death) bid farewell after two years of loyal service, the duo returned to that position. Those who had promised to "apply all the lessons" from their personal journey to the "established house" breathed new life into pompous ball gowns and refreshed the legendary chic of the couturier trained by Cristobal Balenciaga. The signature that had captivated Jackie Kennedy in the 1960s and many First Ladies thereafter found its modern echo. And, just like Naomi Watts' wedding dress, it continues to subtly but surely promote a certain idea of American elegance.
