Fashion luxury house Dior presented its autumn-winter 2023-2024 Haute Couture fashion show on Monday, July 3rd, at the Musée Rodin in Paris, with a collection that perpetuates the cult of the goddess.
The ode to materials continues at Dior, which presented its haute couture collection in the gardens of the Musée Rodin in Paris. Starting with the decor, meticulously crafted like a mural composition. Maria Grazia Chiuri, who regularly highlights women artists, collaborated with Italian artist Marta Roberti. Palm trees, goddesses, and powerful animals unfold majestically under her skilled hand, characterized by vibrant touches of color. "I studied the iconography of different goddesses who are almost always associated with animals and replicated myself by imitating their posture," explained the artist.
This imaginary landscape echoes a collection inspired by ancient goddesses, focused on craftsmanship and exceptional gowns. The allure of haute couture is translated here into tunics, stoles, lace, and embroideries that continue to shape Maria Grazia Chiuri's language in constructing her garments since her arrival at Dior in 2016. These elements are found either as simple ornaments or in more technical ways, working towards the recognition of handiwork.
Maria Grazia Chiuri presents experiments around white, beige, silver, and the vestal silhouette. Furthermore, there is a wardrobe of sophisticated comfort, with cape tops and wide, straight trousers worn with peplum tops that consistently structure the look. The whole ensemble is enhanced by embroidery techniques, twisted by the designer with poetic accents. The collection prominently features ancient influences, praising an apparent simplicity. Versions of the Bar jacket make an appearance on long dresses, in shimmering textures. The models walk in flat, Spartan sandals, dressed in clean lines that hide remarkable construction work. The excellence of couture artisans is thus demonstrated in the precision of the cuts, with the dresses falling gracefully and even becoming a second skin.
