Nesreen Tafesh: "I'm a citizen of the world"
1-May-2017
With a new album and a new television series, the Syrian actress with Palestinian and Algerian origins opens up to us discreetly during our photo shoot. At first, she's kind of reserved, a sensitivity and a sweetness that hide a strong temperament.
In 2017, she is rediscovered as a singer. Her first solo reveals a little seduction and a new captivating style. "I have always loved singing, she says. Ever since my days at the university, my teachers encouraged me to develop my vocal skills, but I preferred to concentrate on my career as an actress. A few years ago, on a television show, I was asked to sing and I hummed a passage from Layali el Ouns. The artistic critic Jamal Fayyad, pleasantly surprised, encouraged me to pass the course and to start a career as a singer." The young woman is now juggling between various artistic domains.
She draws her strength from her roots. Between a Palestinian dad, an Algerian mother and a childhood in Syria, her Oriental origins are enough to make her an open-minded and tolerant person. She considers herself "a citizen of the world", although for her, Syria remains her childhood country. What does Damascus represent? "Adventures that I will never forget. I made my first appearances during festivals that were going on in the country. The beautiful Palestinian discovered the happiness and the pleasure of being on stage when she was only 8 years old. She studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus. In her second year, Nesreen stands out. Supported by her teachers, she quickly became of the big names in the industry.
