In an interview with W Magazine, published on August 15th, actress Salma Hayek discussed her beginnings in Hollywood and her lack of connections in the fashion industry.
March 1996. We are on the red carpet of the Mann Village Theatre in Los Angeles. That evening, Salma Hayek is a rising actress among the stars of the cinema. For the premiere of "The Birdcage," a crowd of stars is expected, including Sigourney Weaver, Raquel Welch, Calista Flockhart, and even Robin Williams. Salma Hayek is also expected, but still relatively unknown. She appears in a gray pantsuit. In an interview given to W Magazine, published on August 15th, the wife of François-Henri Pinault reflects on this first experience on the red carpet.
"I had no connections. The only link I had was with someone I knew at Hugo Boss, so I wore a men's suit because no one else was giving me anything to wear," explains the actress who is also a producer. She had already mentioned this anecdote in an interview with Vogue India two years ago, in August 2021, where she added, "Another time, I was wearing a very simple black dress and I knew that all the other girls would have fabulous designer dresses and magnificent jewelry. You know what? Instead of making it a complex, telling myself that I didn't have the most beautiful dress and that people wouldn't know who I am... I told myself, 'I am fabulous.' I drew fake butterfly tattoos on myself and felt comfortable in my skin." And she added, "I am Mexican. I am also very short, which doesn't help with weight or outfit design."
