For the final date of her world tour, the singer opted for a black Zimmermann dress, embroidered as a tribute to the painter Rupert Bunny.
Who will one day uncover the mystery of Lana Del Rey? On the evening of Thursday, October 5th, the American singer concluded her world tour with a noteworthy concert in Charleston, USA. On stage, she was dressed in a long black dress with a crinoline inserted at the hem. A highly romantic piece that stood out due to its embroidered messages on the underskirt. It bore the phrase 'A collection of female poets,' and below that, 'An illustrated edition.' It was as if the cover of an old book had been woven into the fabric. Indeed, the dress had a story to tell.
Lana Del Rey's fashion choice was not made by chance. The 38-year-old artist, who revealed her talents as a poet in her collection "Violette sur l'herbe à la renverse" published in 2022, was wearing a Zimmermann dress. With long sleeves and balloon shoulders, it came from the Australian label's autumn-winter 2023-2023 collection, which paid tribute to the painter Rupert Bunny, an artist associated with the symbolist art movement who had stayed in Paris during the Belle Époque. Close to Auguste Rodin and Sarah Bernhardt, he was once described by a critic as "one of the most Parisian painters.
Celebrating the link between fashion and art
For autumn, I drew inspiration from the works of Rupert Bunny, an Australian artist from the early last century," explained artistic director Nicky Zimmermann. "I was drawn to his palette and the romanticism of his work - especially the soft and dreamy lifestyle scenes. His paintings exude a glow, warmth, and optimism that absolutely attract me." As a result, some pieces feature prints of his paintings, thanks to a partnership between the Australian house and the National Gallery of Victoria. Lana Del Rey didn't stop at just one garment from the collection either. Throughout her tour, she promoted almost all the dresses from this collection, including the mini and maxi models, as well as the flowing versions.
The day before her concert in Charleston, she was spotted on stage in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, wearing a cream mini dress embroidered in the style of a book cover. Even earlier, she was seen in a black lace dress or another one made of silk linen printed with a painting by Rupert Bunny. It's a beautiful way to pay tribute to an artist who is relatively unknown in Europe, despite having won a bronze medal at the 1900 World's Fair.
