The Bob: Timeless Elegance Redefined
Justine Feutry - Madame Figaro

It's ubiquitous on red carpets and in the front row of fashion shows. A dissection of a classic that continues to captivate us.
While the bob haircut ebbs and flows with the seasons, 2024 has unmistakably become its year. Countless personalities have embraced it, willingly shedding a few inches. "The bob is a classic, and one of our signature cuts at Dessange," analyzes Rémy Ansola, director of the brand's training center. "But its resurgence is welcome news, as long hair doesn't suit everyone. The bob offers a distinctive style, allowing women to assert their identity."

In recent years, lockdowns and celebrity styles had established a trend for long, even XXLong hair. "For spring-summer 2024, many women will embrace other lengths, venturing into short and even very short territory. Bangs will also facilitate change, being styled in various lengths, textured... From a creative standpoint, it’s far more interesting."
However, the "bob," its Anglo-Saxon name, while omnipresent on red carpets, allows for many variations. "And rightly so: several criteria must be considered to find the right option, starting with face shape and silhouette. With a square or rectangular face, it's better to avoid angular lines: the angles should be softened to add gentleness, regardless of the person's age." There's a wide array of cuts available: deconstructed, classic... Personality also plays a role in determining the chosen style. "Finally, a key fundamental point: the hair's nature, texture, and density must be respected," insists the hairstyling expert.
Very short... like Angèle
At the recent Coperni fall-winter 2024-2025 show, Angèle turned heads with her new cut: short, with bangs and nuanced coloring. "Caution: bangs should be avoided on a small forehead as they can diminish the face's proportions, especially if you wear glasses," the training director advises. "But one can opt for a short, full version, or a layered option on a full cut to play with contrasts." Carey Mulligan, America Ferrera, and Julia Garner are also fans of the short bob. "For fine hair, it’s truly a good choice as it immediately adds volume."
...or long like Jennifer Aniston
The bob has the advantage of varying lengths to cater to everyone's preferences. The longer version is a great middle ground for those looking to cut their hair without committing to a drastic change. Spain's Queen Letizia and Jennifer Aniston, who recently revisited her Friends-era look, have embraced this style.
Italian-style... like Penélope Cruz
Zendaya set the trend in 2023, and many have since succumbed to the allure of the Italian bob. Its hallmark? Volume, for a glamorous result that’s perfect for the red carpet. The length grazes the collarbones, with Penélope Cruz and model Elsa Hosk among its latest converts.
