While her absence has been a source of concern for the British press since January 16, the Princess of Wales was seen on Monday, March 18, in Windsor. This time, it's her choice of attire that's drawing attention.

Her appearance inevitably captured all the attention. Following her admission to the London Clinic on January 16 for a scheduled abdominal surgery, Kate Middleton had been missing from the media landscape. So, when a video of her was shared by The Sun on Monday, March 18, it naturally sparked a reaction. In the footage, Prince William and the Princess of Wales are seen in casual attire near the Windsor Farm Shop market. With her hair down and a broad smile, the mother of George, Charlotte, and Louis is wearing a black zip-up sweatshirt, leggings of the same color, and Adidas UltraBoost 20 sneakers. According to several media outlets, including The Sun and Page Six, the sporty outfit chosen by the 42-year-old princess carries a message.
Ready to Return to Work
Typically seen in long coats and cinched dresses, the leggings-and-sneakers combo from March 18 is surprising. Instances where Kate Middleton has been spotted wearing black leggings and sneakers outside of a rugby field are rare, like in 2016 when she wore this relaxed attire during a shopping trip in London. Of course, it's hard to imagine the princess sporting high-waisted jeans and stiletto heels just after abdominal surgery. The sneaker-socks also reflect a life spent away from the media spotlight, for someone who usually opts for more dressed-up sneakers like the Veja models she seldom parts with. It's impossible not to pause for a moment to consider the plastic shopping bag she's holding in her left hand shortly after her convalescence, underscoring a possible regaining of strength.
Regarding the sweatshirt, it's the same model worn by the England rugby team, featuring the rose-shaped logo printed on the chest and an orange zipper. A nod, some suggest, to Kate Middleton's favorite sport, as she took over from Prince Harry in 2022 as the patron of the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League by Queen Elizabeth II. "Two fantastic organizations that are committed to harnessing the power that sport can have to bring communities together and help individuals to thrive," the Princess of Wales expressed in a tweet.
This first public appearance of the royal couple since Christmas 2023 thus contradicts the numerous conspiracy theories and fake news that had been circulating about Kate Middleton's health and the possibility of the couple's divorce. Clearly in good spirits at the start of spring, this video suggests that the princess might soon be back in the saddle.
