Christopher Chong Talks About Bold As Love by Thameen to Special Madame Figaro

1- Can you tell us more about “thameen” and about “As Bold as Love”?

Thameen London is a fragrance brand born in London in 2013 telling the bricolage stories of British cultures and heritage. All fragrances are created with a profound love and passion for the craftsmanship of fine niche perfumery with world renowned perfumers. Our fragrances are the results of creativity through storytelling and being good to our environment with the ingredients and materials we choose. 2- What was the inspiration to create “As Bold as Love” ?

In Bold As Love, Chong continues the theme of belonging at 23/25 Brook Street in London to 1967 with a music legend, Jimi Hendrix. Inspired by Hendrix’s sensuality, soulful artistry and complexity of emotions, this fragrance is just as bold and poignant. With a fervent obsession of George Handel’s Messiah, Hendrix’s sense of belonging reverberates in the dynamics of classical music in order to bring forward daring and experimental chords and phasing.

3- How did Jimi Hendrix and the music industry contribute to the creation of “Bold as Love”? what is the correlation between them?

Bold As Love is a fragrance masterfully blending aromatic and animalic tones with the richness of leather, highlighted by fresh and sharp accents. Perfumer Pierre Negrin explains, “As I was creating Bold As Love, I found an image of Jimi Hendrix in a purple costume. I was immediately attracted to it as it’s my favourite colour. To capture the atmosphere of this image, I crafted a fragrance with smoky leather notes to convey the raw and beastly energy he exuded on stage and his unique sense of style. The smoky notes of the fragrance also mirror Hendrix’s colourful lifestyle. This perfume pays tribute to an extraordinary and inspiring genius whom I found truly innovative.”

4- “Thameen” perfumes may be the most expensive perfumes in the world currently. Can you tell us what makes the brand so special and worth its price?

We don’t claim to be the most expensive perfumes in the world in monetary value. We could say we are one of the most special and unique because we use the finest raw ingredients and most important of all, we have heart. Our fragrances are created with passion and respect for artistry. Creative integrity is more valuable than being the most expensive.

5- What are the notes or the ingredients that were used to create “As Bold as Love”?

It’s a Citrus, Aromatic and Leather fragrance.

Top: Mandarin, Ginger, Apple & Pineapple Accord

Heart: Lavender, Juniper Berry, Geranium

Base: Smoky Leather, Patchouli. Vetiver

6- How would you describe the woman who wears “As Bold as Love”?

She’s bold and sentimental. Most important, she loves to love, embracing all the good and bad feelings that come with it.

7- What is your first ‘scent or perfume memory?

My first scent memory has to be air. The air I breathe in is very precious and memorable because they represent the time and space of now.

8- How important is fragrance to you in your daily life? Does it influence your choices when it comes to work?

Obviously, it is extremely important to me because I design and work with fragrances. I have to wear and test all the modifications every single day. I don’t have the luxury of wearing fragrances to please myself. It’s my work and life.
