To walk the Cannes red carpet this season, celebrities have stepped up their style. As the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has just ended, here is our selection of the most beautiful dresses seen on the legendary steps.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival is officially over. The winners have been announced, the red carpet is packed and the halls of the Palais des festivals have been emptied. So, the final clap, for the high mass of French cinema, which, this year once again, offered its share of fashion moments. From May 14 to 25, celebrities followed one another to climb the stairs and make us dream with sobriety or sometimes, extravagance.
This year, certain trends have emerged on La Croisette. The corset, which is experiencing its glory days, notably thanks to social networks and to fashion shows such as the John Galliano haute couture show for Maison Margiela last January, has was adopted on the Cannes red carpet. We saw him on Anya Taylor Joy, Bella Hadid, Léna Mahfouf, or Thalia, daughter of director Luc Besson. Black, an eternal favorite of French women, was also there, favored by many celebrities such as Emmanuelle Béart, Carla Bruni, Eva Green, Naomi Campbell and Cate Blanchett.
Tributes to fashion
It’s also been a while since wearing designer archives on red carpets became a trend among stars. Let's cite Kim Kardashian and Marilyn Monroe's dress at the Met Gala, Zendaya and her Mugler robot suit, during the promotion of the film Dune or even Carrey Mulligan and his 1950s Balenciaga dress at the Oscars. These creations make it possible to stand out, of course, but also to highlight historical knowledge of fashion, to show an intellectual vision of it.
On the red carpet of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, there were many references to the past. Bella Hadid paraded in an Atelier Versace dress from 2001, Naomi Campbell slipped into the dress she wore on the catwalk at the Chanel haute couture fall winter 1996-1997 show (which still fits her like a glove, almost thirty years later), and Yseult wore a Bar suit signed Dior, a revisited silhouette from the designer's first collection in 1947. More than successful references.
