Jumping rope is a super-versatile workout tool, and celebrity trainer Mark Jenkins seconds it! For Jenkins, jumping rope is the best kind of cardio workout. He has worked with Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, and Brandy. Here are, according to the famous trainer, three reasons why you should ditch the gym and start jumping rope.
Everyone can do it!
Whether you work out like an animal or are a couch potato, you can always jump rope. it's not too easy nor too hard; jumping rope never stops being challenging. Jenkins suggests starting out with five minutes if you’re a newbie, and then you can add one to two minutes every session.
It keeps your heart rate up
"I use it with my clients to keep their heart rate elevated between sets so they continue to burn fat and build muscle at the same time," he says.
It's the quickest, most effective form of cardio
"Just doing five minutes, depending on how fast you jump, can be equivalent to running a half mile to a mile," says the trainer.
