The Met Gala was supposed to take place on May 4th, 2020, but due to coronavirus pandemic and social distancing, it has been postponed.
Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Each year's event celebrates the theme of that year's Costume Institute exhibition, and brings celebrities together on the red carpet to exhibit their looks inspired by the theme of the gala.
However, not all celebrities are big fans of the fashion event, and may not feel sorry for not having it this year.
Who hated the Met Gala and who was banned from attending it?
Demi Lovato
The former Disney star told Billboard in 2016: “I had a terrible experience, It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink." She went to a meeting straight from the event and criticized attendees as fake.
Zayn Malik
After attending the Met Gala with girlfriend Gigi Hadid in 2016, Zayn Malik told GQ: “It's not something I would go to. I'd rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet...To do the self-indulgent 'look at me, I'm amazing' thing on the red carpet, it's not me.”
Gwyneth Paltrow
Although the Hollywood star stated back in 2013: “I'm never going again. It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all.” However, she attended it again in 2017 and 2019.
Tina Fey
The comedian opened up about the Met Gala and told David Letterman in 2015 that “It is such a jerk parade," She added: “"If you had a million arms and all the people you would punch in the whole world, they're all there." She hasn't attended since 2010.
Donald and Melania Trump
After asking her to name one person she'd never invite back to the Met Gala, during The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017, Anna Wintour named Donald and Melania Trump, who have attended the gala several times before, most recently in 2012.”
