Blue and black together in one look: Is it possible, or maybe not?
If we were still stuck in the 1950’s, where everything had to be coordinated, especially when it comes to colors, I would’ve said no to the match. But we are in the 2020s, and celebs have been proving that black and dark blue in 2020 can do a great match if styled the right way. Let’s dig deeper and steal some influencers’ tricks to style the two essentials the right way.
On the runways
Yes, we saw the colors together in Chloé SS20 collection and that’s when we were sure that black and navy blue can create chic, casual and elegant looks, adding a little bit of power.

As for Alberta Ferretti, we saw the two colors in an evening look, and matching the two dark shades for a classic look can be extremely elegant and can create a sophisticated vibe at the same time, so no time for boring!

Dark Colors together
It might get a bit tricky when it comes to the texture and to the look’s feel, you want it stylish not looking like you chose your outfit in the dark.
Reading about this got us into two big conclusions:
- First, do not choose the same fabric for both colors.
- And second, pay serious attention to accessories.
Iraqi influencer Deema Al Asadi chose a navy-blue dress with black belt and bag. And here’s a tip, you can add black accessories to a navy blue dress or suit, but not vice versa.

You can always add a brighter color to your outfit to break the darkness, and it can be a pop shade to break the routine, or an essential color (White, nude, pastels…). Influencer Sonia Lyson added a green neon turtle neck under the blazer, and the look was everything but boring.

Model Kaia Gerber also followed the trend, as she chose an oversized wide shoulders blazer in navy blue with a black shirt underneath.
