Instead of throwing your old white T-shirt, bring the colors of life to it by tie-dyeing it way with different colors; add it to your summer wardrobe for a pop of color twist to your look.
Why buy a new tie-dye t-shirt when you can make your own at home with nearly no cost.
Also, if you want to contribute to recycling and sustainability, this is a great way to start using the old pieces and renew them. Find out below how you can dye a white cotton t-shirt at home.
Swirly Tie-dye T-shirt:
You will need:
- White cotton T-shirt
- Dye colors
- Gloves
- Soda
- A large bowl of warm water
- Elastic bands to tie the T-shirt
- Plastic wraps
- Wood stick
How to do it:
- Put warm water in a large bowl and add soda, but be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands from chemicals.
- Add a few tablespoons of table salt, and be sure to mix the ingredients well before soaking the t-shirt in water for 10 minutes.
- Squeeze the T-shirt well then allow it to dry completely.
- Place the shirt on a flat surface then fix it with a wood stick at the center of the shirt.
- Gently, start to swirl the t-shirt with moving the stick in a circular motion, until the t-shirt is fully wrapped in a swirl shape.
- Pull the stick carefully, and then use rubber bands to secure the T-shirt tightly from every side.
- Put each dye color on one part of the T-shirt.
- Leave it for a few minutes then apply the same colors on the other side.
-Wrap the T-shirt in a plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place for at least 24 hours.
- The next day, remove rubber bands and wash the T-shirt with water to get rid of any excess dye.
- Leave the T-shirt to dry before wearing it.
