Abayas are known as luxurious pieces that suit formal occasions. However, you can always pick a lightweight open abaya or kimono in different colors and prints for a street style casual look this summer. These pieces can literally go with any outfit you have and we will prove that to you.
Whether you have a silk abaya/kimono, long, short, printed, striped, or crochet, we will give you some ideas on how to wear them for a casual daily look, by spotting how influencers and stars adopted them for a catchy stylish outfit. Choose the style that matches yours the best and reflects more your personality.
Jeans
The first styling idea that comes to mind when we think about abayas or kimonos in a casual way, is to pair them with jeans. Actually, many stars and bloggers opted for this combination; a pair of jeans, basic t-shirt, blouse or camisole, pumps or flats. Fashion blogger Leila Yousef styled her purple-berry abaya with gold trims with a high-waisted jean, white basic shirt and chunky sneakers. Chrissy Teigen replaced the shirt with a black camisole and a belt, with a pair of high-heeled sandals for a sexier feminine look.
Dress
Abayas and kimonos would perfectly go with midi or long dresses. Choose a fitted midi dress in a solid color then add a statement with the kimono. Take for instance Gigi Hadid’s animal-printed long kimono, which she styles with a midi side-slit black dress and sandals. Here’s another option: pair the dress with boots for a boho-chic style.
Shorts
We get a lot of inspiration from Emily Ratajkowski's summer model looks, including a comfy sexy twist for the denim shorts. The American model wore the shorts with a V-neck camisole and a green printed kimono, paired it with flat sandals and a straw handbag.
Full Black look
Whether you choose a crop top, collared or open neck shirt in black, wear it with black legging, jeans or wide pants to have the full black look. However, don’t go full black like that, but add a colorful kimono to break it a little. It is best to choose kimonos with colorful prints or patterns, just like the Lebanese Dubai-based influencer Joelle Mardinian who topped her full black look with a printed abaya, or Gigi Hadid, who did the same but with a baroque-printed kimono and flat boots. Do not hesitate to go full white look, if you feel like.
