Although the coronavirus pandemic has stopped every international events and festivals, however, Cannes International Film Festival decided to award the best movies in 2020 without any festival. This means that movie directors won’t be able to get a prize or walk the red carpet to celebrate their success, instead, they will have the right to use the festival’s logo when showing their films in theaters, or to participate in upcoming international events and forums.
Cannes Film Festival announced its official selection list for its 73rd edition; out of 2,067 films, 56 films were selected, including 2 Lebanese movies; “Passion Simple” by director Danielle Arbid and “Broken Keys” directed by Jimmy Keyrouz.
The Lebanese director Danielle Arbid enters the international competition for the first time at Cannes Festival, with her new movie in The Newcomers category. She expressed how happy and grateful she feels for experiencing this for the first time, and thanked everyone, through Instagram, who helped her get there including the cast and the crew.
As for the Lebanese director Jimmy Keyrouz, he had previously won the 2016 Academy Awards for students for his movie “Nocturne in Black”, and today he is selected among "The First Features" category at Cannes International Festival.
