When locked down, designers let out their imagination to create their dream world or a world they’d like to see. Imagination is what kept those designers strong against everything that is happening to the fashion world after covid-19 hit their sales and forced them to deal with this new world. Everyone was wondering how fashion houses will manage to ditch the traditional runway and still keep their audience interested and entertained through virtual fashion shows?
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director, transmitted us to her imaginary peaceful world away from our crazy planet through a short storytelling movie directed by Matteo Garone, the director of Pinocchio (2019) and Tale of Tales. A short story capturing “ Le Mythe Dior” taking us to a dream-like world inspired by the Theatre de la Mode fashion, an exhibit tour of fashion dolls, which took place after WWII, where designers came together to rejuvenate the French fashion industry.
A fashion trunk that looks like Dior's headquarters, transported Dior’s Haute couture 37 miniature designs, which were inspired by surrealist women; including Lee Miller, Dora Maar and Jacqueline Lamba, were brought to life in the 10 mins movie.
Christian Dior’s couture presentation was anything but traditional; they were part of the fairytale where nymph-like models got the chance to try Dior’s dreamy gowns and ensembles in layered pleated chiffon, embroidered tulle, tweed, including feathers details and rope wrapped on the bust area. The film also unveils the Dior Savoir Faire of the atelier.
The Dior haute couture ateliers made two sets of 37 outfits, each reproduced at a miniature size mannequinthat will be sent around the world to Dior’s couture clients.
