Saudi Arabia Announces Eid Al Adha’s First Day
Four-day holiday for UAE
Hala Fayyad
22-July-2020
For everyone who is wondering about the first days of Eid al-Adha, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced on Monday that Day of Arafat will be on Thursday, July 30, and the first day of Eid al-Adha is next Friday, July 31. Since the crescent of Dhul Hijjah will be visible after sunset tomorrow, the beginning of the 12th month of the Islamic calendar marks today July 22nd and Eid al-Adha begins on the 10th day.
Saudi authorities confirmed earlier that the official moon-sighting committee took their positions in different Saudi cities and governorates to monitor the crescent of the month of pilgrimage. The sources reported that the committees installed their equipment and monitored in various places in the Kingdom, including Hautat Sudair, Tamir, Shaqraa, Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, Dhahran, Al Qassim, Ha’il and Tabuk.
Muslims celebrate sacrifice at Eid Al Adhar, which is a time for prayer and good deeds. Although the spirit of the Eid is still there, however, traditional celebrations and gatherings will be suspended, due to the current situation with the on-going spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, crowded gatherings will be banned, but mosques may open their doors under safety measures like social distancing.
Consequently, The UAE's Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced a four-day Eid Al Adha holiday for the private and public sectors; from Thursday, July 30th till Sunday, August 2nd.
