According to a report published by "Akhbar Al-An" yesterday, Thursday 29 July, the UAE female national football player, Areej Al-Hammadi, broke the world record, simultaneously with the launch of Guinness World Records Day 2020 scheduled next November. The female Emirati player smashed the record for the most football 'hotstepper' ball control ticks in one minute, after completing 86 repetitions in total. As the previous record was able to achieve 56 repetitions in March 2020 in the UK.
Areej was not the only Emirati to break Guinness’ records, as the Emirati athlete influencer on social media Walid Yari set a new world record for Guinness for achieving the Most side jump push-ups in 1 minute competing 33 flying pushups in a single minute in Dubai, UAE beating the previous world record, 26 pushups in India. Walid, 34, is known as "The Gulf Monster", a nickname which was given to him by his followers on social media, referring to the type of difficult exercises he does on Instagram.
“I encourage people to swap their burgers for burpees and get into shape with unique training routines that resemble something that can be visualised in a film,” said Yari. “I have been training almost all my life, and I was ready the minute I knew about Guinness World Records Day. So, I set up my cameras the next exact day, and filmed the entire scene to smash the previous record title,” said Walid.
As for Areej, she expressed her excitement and happiness after holding officially a Guinness title, she went on Instagram to say: “Here comes the hotstepper, murderer I’m a football gangster, murderer.”
“I’m so happy to say I’m officially a #guinnessworldrecord title holder for most “hotstepper” football tricks in one minute - new record 86! BOOM!”
