How to care for your hair at the beach?

Wind, sand, sun… beach life is harsh on the hair. However, when applying the right hydration with other simple haircare routines, you will be able to maintain a healthy smooth hair. Here are some tips.

When we think of beach vacation, we immediately think of swimsuit and sunscreen, but your hair needs protection as much as your skin. To enjoy the beach and the sun without damaging your hair, you need to follow the right routine.

Leave your hair alone

The best advice on how to keep your hair healthy at the beach is: avoid anything that can damage it and make it more exposed to external aggressions. This means you should ditch excessive brushing and tight elastics that damage hair fibers. Your hair need to be free as much as possible. However, if you feel like tying your hair, just make sure to tie it loose. Small hair clips for the locks, loose braid or a relaxed bun will be fine for you if you are a big fan of styling your hair.  Also, you need to give up on dry shampoos which make your hair dry and more fragile.

Protecting products

To avoid damaging your hair while at the beach, you can invest in anti-UV protective hair treatments, which come in sprays; they are essential when you have dyed or highlighted hair as they prevent the color from fading due to sun exposure.

Nourishing masks are also another option to adopt before heading to the beach. The hair will be well covered and will resist aggressions better. After each beach day, you should rinse lightly with a homemade beauty product: mineral water with apple cider vinegar (2 tablespoons for 1.5 litres of water). This trick would neutralize the effects of salt and sand.

Shampoo and care

When back from the beach, the first thing you should do is wash your hair with a good shampoo. Choose a very soft shampoo with repairing active ingredients. Then, nourish your hair with vegetable oil. A simple olive oil would be enough. If the hair tends to grease, hazelnut oil would be perfect, for its nourishing and sebum-regulating properties. You can add it to aloe vera gel to hydrate your hair with a light texture. As for dry hair, it is better to use sweet almond oil with castor oil, and apply it to your hair lengths for at least 30 minutes before shampooing.
