- Mark your calendars, as every August 28th, the UAE will be celebrating their women’s achievements.
- The day aims to recognize the contribution of Emirati’s women, and their role in the development and advancement of the UAE.
- Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation and the third wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, chose this specific day to be dedicated for Emiratis women because it coincides with the launch of the General Women’s Union in August 28th, 1975.
- Emirati women day was celebrated for the first time in August 2015.
- Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak announces each year the theme that will be celebrated each year, as she announced back in May that this year’s theme is: “Preparing for the next 50 years: women are the support of the nation".
- Sheikha Fatima has insisted that Emirati women have proven to everyone that they are capable of supporting the country under all circumstances.
- Emirati women have proven throughout the years that they are playing an important role in helping the UAE succeed in the next 50 years, working along with men to shape the future.
- This year’s theme will be a year of preparation for the UAE’s Golden Jubilee next year.
- Since Emirati women’s day last year, the UAE ensured half of its 40 Federal National Council members were women after a decree by President Sheikh Khalifa; the membership of the council is now equally represented.
