A Celebration of Julia Roberts Iconic Hair Moments

We can never forget her red curls framing her bright smile. Julia Roberts, the actress who never failed the hairstyle game, is among the celebrities who have the most fun with their hair, from blond to brown to short hair and to wavy lengths. Let’s take a trip back into her hair journey.

In 1990, the world fell under the spell of a young actress who turned Richard Gere's head in Pretty Woman by Garry Marshall. Julia Roberts's seduction asset? Her bright smile framed by a cascade of red curls, which she initially conceals under a blonde wig in the film.

In everyday life, the face of Lancôme's "La Vie est belle" perfume, can go from blonde (from simple highlights to platinum blonde) to black. A true chameleon, Julia Roberts is not afraid to try radical colorings while remaining in the classic tones range. She would never try blue hair or shave her head. Her only real hair risk-taking were a fringe and a platinum bob.

A wavy signature

When it comes to hairstyle, Julia Roberts has tried a smooth bob and baguette lengths, yet she clearly shows a preference for wavy hair.

These waves brighten her face, and give a touch of modernity to her long hair or to a lob. It’s a great technique that offers a natural result which perfectly matches her personality.

And it is to this hairstyle that she has remained faithful for many years, with the same loyalty she shows to her hairdresser, the French Serge Normant. The latter indeed met her during a photoshoot for Vanity Fair magazine, in 1993, on the set of the film The Pelican Affair by Alan J. Pakula. The hair stylist who also styled Meghan Markle for her wedding, regularly shares pictures of his collaborations with the actress. And his signature hairstyle: the flawless beach curls.

Buns and ponytails

Occasionally, Julia Roberts also tries the bun hairstyle. Low, retro, big or messy, she experimented the bun in different shapes and with different levels of success. The banana shape showed a strict and aging side of her.

She also chose to mark some highlights of her career with a ponytail, just like when she received the Oscar for Best Actress in a Vintage Valentino dress for her performance in Steven Soderbergh's Erin Brockovich, or in Cannes for Jodie Foster's film Money Monster, in 2016.
