Céline Dion is finally taking on acting

It’s official, we will be seeing Céline Dion on the big Cinema screens. The Canadian diva will appear alongside the Scottish actor Sam Heughan and the Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a romance film called “Text for You”.

After almost 40 years of an iconic singing career, tens of millions of albums sold across the world and many titles ranked at the top of the charts, Celine Dion got her first real role in a movie. The diva who has signed several film soundtracks - including the unforgettable My Heart Will Go On - has of course already embodied her own role on TV and in the cinema, but Dion had never played a different character. The superstar will appear alongside Sam Heughan (Outlander) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico) in a romance film called Text for You.

 

The latter also immediately shared this announcement on her Twitter account. “I can't wait to start this great movie with such amazing people. Jim Strouse, Sam Heughan, Celine Dion. It is an honor! Let's go!"

 

 

A remake of a German film

Directed and co-written by Jim Strouse, this romance is a remake of the German film SMS Für Dich released in 2016, itself taken from Sofie Cramer's bestseller. A romantic drama, the film tells the story of a woman (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) who sends text messages to her deceased fiancé. Doomed to go unanswered, the young woman's messages fall into the hands of a man (Sam Heughan) to whom the phone number has been reassigned. Living in the same city, the latter is also heartbroken. Against the backdrop of romantic songs such as My Heart Will Go On and It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, the two lonely souls will gradually open up to each other.

 

Sam Heughan is a Céline Dion fan

If her songs will take part of the scenario of the film or not, no information has been given yet on the character Céline Dion will be playing in the film. “I'm a huge Celine Dion fan” Sam Heughan said in a statement. “A music icon, as well as Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who will be great in this film. I feel extremely lucky to be working alongside them and I can't wait for everyone to see this heartwarming film. ” The Canadian iconic singer has not yet spoken about this project. And while waiting to know more, French fans of Céline Dion will be able to find their idol incarnated by Valérie Lemercier in her film Aline, a comedy freely inspired by the life of the Canadian star.
