The most Iconic Wedding Gowns In Haute Couture

With a lot of mesmerizing creations, unparalleled fabrics and embroidery, haute couture fashion shows have always given us the chance to magically dream of our own wedding gown. We take a trip back in the collections, so keep scrolling to find the most mythical creations for the last forty years.

Bridal gowns in fashion shows were a must, the one that everyone waited for so impatiently. Today the tradition is being lost, perhaps depriving Fashion Week of one of its most magical moments. But luckily, it hasn't completely disappeared: we are still in a hurry to discover the final designs from the Chanel, Givenchy, Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad collections.

The finale ceremony always comes in a wedding dress

Of course, haute couture would be wrong to deprive its clients of design in which they could celebrate their big days. By failing to present the traditional finale in a wedding dress, the houses are losing potential clients and orders.

We all still remember the finale ceremony that punctuated each of Karl Lagerfeld's appearances for Chanel, hand in hand with his iconic brides from 1983 until his last show: Ines de la Fressange and her Princess Leia hairstyle in 1986, Claudia Schiffer and her attractive corset in 1992, Devon Aoki and her sumptuous Watteau-style dress in 2008. More recently, Lily-Rose Depp marked the spirits in a sugar-pink dress similar to a blooming hyacinth, in a decor made of thousands of mirrors.

The best moment after 6 months of creating

Jean Paul Gaultier’s brides have a completely different energy. During the fall-winter 2017-2018 show, models ran the podium, mischievously lifting their jupons. The designer, along with his seamstresses then arrive, to huge applause from the audience. Another mythical moment? The finale of the Christian Lacroix shows. His brides rushed with tension and excitement, and then there was a shower of flowers, the same flowers the designer offered his guests upon their arrival. The model with trembling hands and teary eyes then proceeded to gently remove her veil.

There were so many divine appearances in haute couture. In 1993, Carla Bruni made all women want to get married in Givenchy, her dress was so perfect especially with its charming neckline. Few years later, it had become a habit for Laetitia Casta to punctuate the Yves Saint Laurent haute couture fashion shows and capture the hearts of hundreds of admirers. At the same time, Thierry Mugler unveiled his singular and prolific imagination, and even his creations designed for the big dy kept the models in another galaxy. John Galliano’s masterpieces, delivered during his fifteen years in the service of Christian Dior house, were also more spectacular and extraordinary than actually wearable. But isn't this one of the primary functions of haute couture: to make us dream?
