Reinventing the abaya and turning it into utility wear is such a creative way to combine the streetwear attire with the modest abaya, two divergent worlds brought together by Saeedah Haque.
This streetwear Abaya label, first of its kind, was started by self-taught designer Saeedah Haque at 22 - every piece is designed, sourced and made in London. Comfort, movement and minimalism are at the soul of the SH label. Inspired by her South Asian heritage and her Muslim identity, the young designer wants her brand to voice an unapologetic approach to modesty.
The Nike shoes, the Yeezy sneakers, the adidas hoodie and the Vetements baseball cap are all it takes to update your abaya look with extra-streetwear vibe, and Saeedah did it all the right way. She either paired black and white together, or styled a red hoodie under a red abaya design that is dedicated to be sporty enough for streetwear.
Oversized designs, utilitarian detailing, monochromatic layering and sporty attire were things we couldn’t but notice when we took a look on her designs. Saeedah’s brand isn’t just about trendy aesthetics; it’s mainly about practical clothes, and we all know how much practicality is important when it comes to our daily looks.
