Golden Globes 2021 Nominations: Three Female Directors make history

The Golden Globes dropped a surprise on Wednesday as Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the 2021 Golden Globes nominations, marking the kick-off of this year’s Hollywood season, which has been delayed by the coronavirus.

With movies and TV shows reigning during lockdowns era, we are paying much attention on the nominations and awards winners this year, and while some nominations had our attention, the absence of some actually was disappointing. So keep scrolling to know more.

For this year, three women were nominated for the “Best Director”, the first time more than one woman is shortlisted, so we have Regina King, Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennel up for the prize.

The film awards is led by “Mank” with 6 nominations while “The Crown” leads TV categories with also 6 nominations.

Aaron Sorkin's film drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 and TV comedy Schitt's Creek also performed well, with five nominations each.

And you’re probably wondering where “Emily in Paris” and “Bridgerton” really are. While Emily in Paris was nominated among the Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy award, Bridgerton was absent from the nominations. Even though the international platform Netflix was leading in the nominations, the 82 million views Bridgerton got since its release probably were not taken into consideration.

And while “Malcolm & Marie” doesn't hit Netflix until February 5, critics still predicted a Golden Globe nomination for its 24-year-old superstar, Zendaya, but no.

You can check the list of all nominations here.

We will leave you with this until the Golden Globes event and the awards fall into place.
