At what else to expect as a secret nod to The Queen’s Gambit! A chess-themed manicure was of course a must . The 24-year-old who just won her first Golden Globe, paid a discreet but perfect tribute to the series that led her to this award. A closer look to her chess mani.
Anya Taylor-Joy owes a lot to The Queen’s Gambit, one of Netflix's 2020 hits, of which she is the heroine. She plays Beth Harmon, a chess player who climbs all the ranks in a very masculine world. This role of the strong woman made her win her first Golden Globe at just 24 years old, an award the Argentinian-American-British actress received digitally due to the ongoing pandemic. And as the actress donned her astonishing custom Dior Haute Couture emerald gown and Tiffany & Co. jewels, there was another detail not to be missed: her manicure. Indeed, Anya Taylor-Joy gave a secret nod to the series by opting for a nail art based on the chess game.
The actor who was also nominated for her role in the film Emma showcased her checkered-print nail art, by manicurist Kim Truong who added also a mention of the book “Modern Chess Openings” which Beth Harmon reads in the series.
The theme of the series also inspired the actress' makeup artist, Georgie Eisdell, who staged Dior lipsticks on a chess board for the occasion. The make-up artist has also delivered her inspirations for the beauty look of the actress. “I wanted to keep this 70s look while adding a touch of modernity. I went for bronze smokey eyes, some nice airy lashes and a light blush. To harmonize the whole, a nude lipstick".
All this just shows that chess games have not finished inspiring the world of beauty.
