From the dazzling sapphires worn on her Scotland Tour, from May 25 to 27, to the Bahraini pearls at Prince Philip's funeral, we are taking a look back at the jewels borrowed from Queen’s personal collection and spotted this year on Kate Middleton.
The Scotland Tour
The Duchess of Cambridge went extremely discreet and minimalistic during her tour of Scotland the last few days of May, spotted in Erdem sailor shirt, Massimo Dutti coat and Barbour jackets. However, Kate Middleton chose to save her glamorous look for the “Cruella” film Premiere in Edinburgh on May 26. That evening, she accessorized her full-length blue and green tartan trench coat from Holland Cooper with stunning diamond and sapphire earrings. These dazzling jewels were a gift in 1979 by the late Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum, to Queen Elizabeth II during her trip to the Middle East. The Dubai Looped Sapphire Demi-Parure was then a set of earrings and a necklace, which Queen Elizabeth II had shortened to then design a second pair of earrings with the stones removed from the initial set.
Prince Philip's funeral
Here comes the jewel that became talk of the town this year. A final nod to the intimate relationship that has been woven over time between the Queen and Kate Middleton, the queen entrusted Kate with a jewel very dear to her heart to attend the funeral of her late husband, Prince Philip, on April 17th. In the details, it’s a quadruple row of pearls and diamonds, which had been offered to Elizabeth II by the Japanese government in the 1970s.
It was also spotted on Lady Diana’s neck in 1982, then on the duchess of Cambridge in 2017. A masterpiece that the queen had accessorized with a pair of diamond earrings, which were a gift from the sovereign of Bahrain to celebrate her marriage to Prince Philip in 1947.
