On the 2nd of November (Tuesday), celebrities and jet-setting fashionistas gathered in the Dubai Creek Harbour district to watch another breathtaking Chanel show.
7 years after Karl Lagerfeld showed a Chanel collection in Dubai, the luxury and iconic French house comes one more time to the city of life, Dubai, to showcase the Cruise 2022 collection.
Chanel’s Cruise 2022 is another chance to prove that Dubai is the city buzzing with life, especially during these times, while the Emirate is hosting the Expo 2020.
Under Dubai’s glowing skyline and with the golden desert hues, Virginie Viard, Chanel’s creative director, took us on a magical trip with the designs she already unveiled virtually in May, due to the pandemic.
The Show
The iconic French house knew the popularity it has in Dubai and knew that its friends should be on the front rows of the show, so there were two staged shows, one in the afternoon and another at 7PM. Besides the breathtaking décor and amazing vibes, Chanel’s muses rocked the runways, with Nora Attal, the Moroccan-British model, and Algerian-French Loli Bahia among others.
The front row of the ultra-chic event was blessed with the presence of the beautiful Penélope Cruz who showed up in a Chanel tweed suit giving a moment to one of the most iconic designs of the house. Were also present Egyptian actress Tara Emad, Maison Chanel’s ambassadors Caroline de Maigret and Soo Joo Park, and French-Algerian actress Sofia Boutella.

Guests were then invited to a setting with a refined atmosphere for a party hosted by DJs Wladimir Schall, Soo Joo Park and Kungs, before discovering a surprise performance by John Legend, joined on the piano by Casablanca-born singer Faouzia.
The Collection
Nothing compares to Chanel’s timeless elegance and striking simplicity that turns to edgy in seconds, and we loved the modern and punk feels of this Cruise 2022 collection.
The collection was inspired by the house’s iconic founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel and by her friendship with French filmmaker and artist Jean Cocteau. More specifically, the inspiration came from Cocteau’s black and white film “Testament of Orpheus” in 1959. The atmosphere of the film inspired Virginie Viard to create a very sharp collection, with a distinct two-tone color scheme, playing on the monochrome contrasts of the 60s, rock and punk. The creative director of Chanel chose graphic tees, black & white shades and fishnets to give this collection this punk feel. However, she kept a balance with soft lace dress, linen pants and of course floral dresses.
