In one of her latest interviews, American professional tennis player Serena Williams declared that she’s preparing to retire. She has "never liked the word" retirement, preferring the word "evolution". Her aim is to focus on her family.
Winner of 23 Grand Slam titles, Williams said she wanted to spend more time with her husband Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of the Reddit platform, and Olympia, their 5-year-old daughter. She also revealed that she intends intended to give birth to a second child. However, she doesn’t want to be pregnant again while being an athlete; she prefers to focus rather on her tennis world, or on her family.
"If I were a guy, I wouldn't be writing this, because I'd be out playing tennis and winning tournaments, while my wife was doing the physical work of growing our family," she pointed out. Maybe I'd be more like Tom Brady if I had the opportunity." Serena Williams also recalled that she "was two months pregnant" when she won the Australian Open in 2017. "But I'm 41 this month, and something has to change," she continued.
“I went from a C-section to a second pulmonary embolism to a Grand Slam final. I played through breastfeeding. I played through postpartum depression. But I didn't make it." That didn't stop the athlete from becoming a legend.
