It is undeniable: some foods with multiple virtues for the body, are known to be healthier than others. Among them, almonds are known to be a "super food".

Where does the almond come from?

The almond is a small fruit that grows on the almond tree and comes from the hot and dry regions of the Near and Middle East. Consumed since the dawn of time, it was already one of the small gustatory pleasures of the Eastern populations, 780 000 years ago! Its culture, as for it, began in China, approximately 3000 years ago. Nevertheless, it is today California which is the biggest exporter of it. The country holds nearly 80% of the world's almond production.

Indeed, despite the benefits of almonds, they have a high energy value. 100 grams of fresh almonds contain about 350 calories. And when the almond is dried, its calorific value doubles, reaching 634 calories per 100 grams.


What are the benefits of almonds for the body?

Almonds contain omega 9. In other words, the lipids present in almonds are considered good fats, known for their protective properties on the cardiovascular system. Almonds also contain a significant amount of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps the body fight against oxidative stress and premature aging of cells.

Almonds are also rich in fiber. They thus support the intestinal transit. Finally, almonds contain many nutrients. Its magnesium is a natural anti-stress. Its calcium helps the mineralization of the bones. Its potassium contributes to the proper functioning of the heart and nervous system. Its phytosterols help to reduce cholesterol.


Is it good to eat almonds every day and how much almonds should I eat?

Given its many health benefits, almonds are a very good ingredient to consume daily. However, it is important not to overdo it... It is recommended to eat a handful of almonds every day, about 30 grams. Also, it is better to prefer plain or dry roasted almonds, i.e. without adding sugar or salt.


What are the risks of eating too many almonds?

With their high fiber content, almonds should not be eaten in excessive quantities. They can cause diarrhea or other discomforts, such as nausea. As always, it is recommended to have a varied diet. It is therefore better to be satisfied with a simple handful of almonds every day to enjoy their best benefits.


When should I avoid eating almonds?

Even if almonds are very beneficial to the body, they are among the most allergenic foods... It is therefore better not to introduce them in the dietary diversification before the age of one year. Moreover, whole almonds, as well as other nuts, are not recommended before the age of 4-5 years, to avoid any risk of choking. Finally, adults with peanut allergies should avoid eating other nuts and oilseeds, including almonds.
