From ovens to catwalks

Bag in French “baguette” shape: the accessory spotted during Fendi’s men show, presented during the Italian fashion week.
From the ovens to the catwalks, there would be only one step. This is how the creation that resumed its rights in Milan - after a long Covid break - where the presentation of men's collections for the fall and winter next year has just ended. One of the details that stands out is the breadstick clutched under the arm of the models in the Fendi show. At the risk of disappointing the real fans, here, no crunchy crust, nor crumb with beautiful cells: the model presented is in fluff, so it is not eaten. There is no gustatory interest, because the matter is different: it is a question of the wear and appearance of the tricolor emblem, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site last November, and which is just as symbolic as its ingredients. Here, we respect the cliché.
The breadstick in a Fendi bag, fall/winter 2023/2024 collection
Remember that the word "baguette" is intimately linked to the Italian brand since 1997. The designer Silvia Venturini Fendi has seized on it to baptize her star bag that we slip under the arm, and in which we put some odds and ends. A line of humor that is now an institution at Fendi, because since its launch, the accessory does not fail: it even sells like hotcakes. To date, more than a thousand variants have been created, the latest of which was just presented in Milan, with a design that closely resembles the shape of a breadstick.
It looks like fashion loves this French symbol, most often removed from its Basque beret, its mustache, and its bottle of red. In 2020, we saw him appear in a Moschino collection, largely inspired by Queen Marie Antoinette, in which corsets, extravagant hairstyles and royal dresses dominated. The Parisian designer Amélie Pichard also carried the French tradition high by unveiling her bag "Michard" in the shape of a breadstick. A 450-euro creation, made of lacquered acacia wood, spotted under the arm of influencer Blanca Miró during a Paris Fashion Week. Others go even further: in Japan, the brand Pampshade goes as far as to propose lamps made from real bread, in the shape of a baguette or a croissant.
