Anna Bondavalli’s Lens Captures Intangible Form

In Anna Bondavalli's digital lens, the jargon of photography takes on a new meaning and the "revealing bath" now unfolds in the photosensitive eye of the artist and imprints itself on the surface of our skin in a shiver. Between the artist and the light, the roles have been reversed and it is now the photo that seems to move in front of the motionless viewer.
In her latest masterpieces, the talented photographer inscribed through her lens inscribes the gesture in a stasis of time and the movement that began before the shot will continue afterwards, leaving behind a trail of light. The shot has captured the gesture on the fly and the moving form crosses the black paper like a curtain or a matrix, to be born in the light in an alchemy between the visible and the invisible.
Imitating the functioning of the consciousness, the artist shoots her subject in the grip of an inner struggle, to explore its emotions and reveal its fragility, doubts and fears, and to extract it for a time from its solitude. The viewer is left pensive in this in-between time where the pact between the subject's interiority and his flesh body is concluded.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, on Tuesday March 7th 2023, the collective photo exhibition "Women by Women" was held at the Art District gallery in Gemmayze, Beirut. A large number of art enthusiasts, including artists and diplomats, flocked to this specialized art gallery to discover the work of artist Anna Bondavalli. Titled "Intangible," Anna presented a series of works resulting from her formal and introspective research. These highly sensitive prints bear the imprint of this encounter with oneself, revealed in a brushstroke of light.
The exhibition will continue until April 1st at Art District, 395 Rue Gouraud. Gemayzeh Beirut. Tel: 81680088.
