Azra Khamissa is definitely pushing boundaries of the centuries-old henna designs art, and she has drawn thousands of admirers including celebs like Gigi Hadid who is often crushing over the young henna artist’s designs.
The Canadian South-African chiropractor and talented henna designer who has been updating this traditional art with her fresh and contemporary approach for the last couple of years, is now a top Instagram henna artist.
Recently, the 30-year old Dubai-based entrepreneur, known for her minimalist and modern designs, teamed up with two Arab female artists to create something special for the Henna community, and the amazing results definitely caught our attention. Keep scrolling to meet the two talented women Azra chose, and to say hello to your new henna addictions just in time for Eid al-Fitr.
The Sadu Embroidery Henna Designs
Azra Khamissa created a new concept: the henna stickers. In collaboration with Emirati graphic designer Shamma Buhazza, the two powerful and talented artists created something tied to Emirati culture. Buhazza wove herself into Sadu embroidery (a traditional handicraft which originated among the Bedouins of the desert and is still practiced by Emirati women today) and designed Sadu Alphabet. It’s exactly where graphic design, henna, culture and traditions met in the middle and in the “best way I could have ever imagined” as described by Azra on her Instagram. We’re sure you’d love to own these playful sticker stencils and create your own henna design this Eid.
The Tatreez Henna Designs
As for her second collaboration, the Instagram henna star chose another young woman, Nour Flayhan, a Lebanese illustrator. These sticker stencils are the ones a feminine woman would love to wear. Nourie Flayhan created the Tatreez design, one that is inspired by her grandmother’s embroidery work. She gave an ode to Tatreez from the Levantine region. Those elegant floral henna designs are sure going to be every woman’s favorites this Eid.
We now know you’re excited to have yours by Eid, so you can shop both Henna stickers designs here.
