Dior Cruise 2022 Collection Is An Ode To Grecian History

The creative director Dior Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to create a Dior Cruise 2022 collection that celebrates what it means to be a woman, and not only she succeeded in doing so, she also made every woman feel like a Greek goddess with every piece of this new collection.
Inspiration
The starting point was a series of photographs from 1951 of a couture collection by Mr. Dior himself, taken near the Pantheon. Then Maria Grazia Chiuri, who is the first female at the helm of the iconic French house, went on an inspirational trip all over Greece, to make a thorough research on women’s contributions throughout history. Each piece of this contemporary-Grecian collection reflects Chiuri’s feminine flare, the know-how of Greek artisans, and the Greek mythology. The goddess tunic, evoking marble and ancient statuary, is resolutely ethereal thanks to its fabrics and handmade pleats.
The ambiance and décor
The collection was unveiled in the heart of the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, a treasure of antiquity also known as Kallimármaro. With its grandiose volumes, this symbolic venue offered an exceptional decor that perfectly matches the inspirations of the collection, combining the power of heritage with contemporary inventiveness.
The Collection
The show began with cute dresses and co-ords which we immediately fell in love with, especially with the necklines opened and shoulders exposed, a kind of fresh, sexy and feminine mix. Other looks felt more active wear with logo-waistband shorts, blue-and-white sweats, logo'ed socks, gym bags…
As the show went on, the Dior vibe was back in big time: The black harness-adorned bodices with the “Very Dior” sleeves and cuts, printed mini dresses (some with one shoulder, some with an I cut), the red carpet dresses that came with sneakers.
Gold metallic dresses were there to remind us that partying is almost back in after the pandemic. In addition to all the perfect cut-outs we witnessed, there were the fringes and ruffles. In between were many other Chiuri and Dior signatures, like bar jackets, peplums, belted coats, harness-adorned bodices and pleated ankle-length skirts.
