How to add the Bridgerton Fashion Looks to Your Wardrobe

Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton has brought fashion from the 1800s up to date, to the point of making it one of the major trends of this season. Here are some ways to adopt it, but with making it 2021.
Bridgerton is a big hit playing on Netflix right now, both in audience and in style, and a new buzzword is all over social media: Regencycore. At the start of the year, this word is spreading on the Web like wildfire. Bridgerton series has been a hit during these endless lockdown evenings - among the top 5 on Netflix- and for good reasons.
Launched on December 25, this period drama produced by Shonda Rhimes draws its success in particular from the Regency style which navigates between pastel colors, feathers, empire waist dresses and an avalanche of pearls and frills. Trends that owe their main fashion references to the English aristocracy in the early 1800s. Keep scrolling to shop the Reegencycore trend to your wardrobe this season.
The corset
Initially, this drawstring staple was designed to mold the bust, and not to be seen. Very present in Bridgerton, it has turned into a sexy piece that no longer hides. Instagram influencers love it. Fashion-focused website Stylight reports a 123% increase in searches for corsets on its platform after the series aired on Netflix. And the corset is also making its comback on the runways (Mugler, Tom Ford, Savage x Fenty ...)
Pastel colors
Far from the black leather Matrix style, Bridgerton also shines by highlighting pastel colors. A whole palette game was organized around the choice of costumes. Unlike the Featherington family and their bright clothes, the Bridgertons go for blue and more delicate tones. The same goes for the patterns of the clothes, inspired by the design of French pastries that can be used in small doses on cardigans and other knits.
Pearls, feathers and rhinestones
To accentuate the romantic side of the silhouettes of the actresses, the choice of accessories is not done lightly. Pearl necklaces, sparkling jewels and feathered headbands form the essential trio of Victorian allure. In 2021, it is a very jeweled accessory that can come to elevate an ordinary cotton t-shirt.
The headband
According to the Stylight platform, searches for feather and pearl headbands jumped 49% after the series began airing. Already in the trends in 2019, the headband continues its rise outside the runways. To know how to wear it, just follow the example of influencers like Pernille Teisbaek, Xenia Adonts, Loulou De Saison or Veronika Heilbrunner or that of Kate Middleton who gave in to its serious charm without making it too preppy or retro.
Empire waist dress
High waist, flared bottom, pattern galore… Thanks to the series, searches for empire dresses are also up by 150% on Stylight's platforms. Styles that can be found in many collections today, such as Zimmermann and Cecilie Bahnsen.
Gloves
In lace, silk, tulle… Very present in the Gucci collections, gloves have everything to fill the box of the “Regencycore” accessory. Its retro and delicate aspect thus sprinkles the few episodes of the first season of Bridgerton. They are mostly found in white, plain or polka dots, and long as short, and can easily come to gentrify a denim jacket or a wool coat with a straight fall.
Floral patterns
Popular in summer, the flower motif is a frequent feature of Bridgerton series. On a dress worn by Penelope Featherington, in an eccentric hairstyle or hanging from a choker, the flower takes hold of the feminine wardrobe and becomes an ultimate trend. A detail that is reminiscent of the wardrobe of another great trend of the moment: The Cottagecore.
The Mary-Jane shoes
From the legendary Carel styles to the catwalks of the biggest fashion brands, including the essential Clueless movie, babies, also called Mary-Jane, have that retro charm that fascinates fashion and cinema. No wonder these shoes have gained popularity on Stylight as well. To give them the 2021 twist, we team them with a pair of flamboyant socks or tights and some straight-cut jeans.
The Cape
This essential of the neo-bourgeois wardrobe has given the poncho its touch of nobility. If the cape comes back a lot in the Victorian series, it is also a modern piece that has its place in today's dressing rooms.
