A memorial statue of Princess Diana of Wales will be installed at Kensington Palace next July on what would have been her 60th birthday, according to an announcement made by the Palace on Friday. The event was meant to happen earlier, however, it was postponed due to the spread of the pandemic.
In 2017, Princes William and Harry had requested a statue to be sculpted in honor of their late mother, Princess Diana, who passed away in a tragic car accident in Paris, more than 20 years ago. They also wanted the statue to be installed outside the older brother’s official London home, Kensington Palace.
Later that year, Princes William and Harry chose the British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, who designed the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the British coins, to create a statue of Princess Diana in order to commemorate 20 years since Lady Diana’s death.
On a side note, this statue will not be the first memorial inaugurated for Princess Diana, as the first one was a fountain at Hyde Park inaugurated in 2004, also, you can find Princess Diana's garden at Regent Gardens in Scotland.
