Jordan's King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, are celebrating today their 27th wedding anniversary. Queen Rania wished her husband, the King, a happy anniversary by sharing their photo and captioning: “How could you not fall in love with that smile, over and over again for 27 years! So lucky and grateful to have you by my side, happy anniversary.”
If you’re wondering how they met and got married, His Majesty the King Abdullah II mentioned how he met Queen Rania Al Abdullah in his book "Our Last Chance" and how he proposed to her.
The king said that after two months of his service in the desert camp as commander of the Second Royal Armored Battalion, his sister Princess Aisha, invited him to have a simple dinner at home, in August 1992.
It was when King Abdullah met with Rania Al-Yassin for the first time at the dinner, where she was with his sister's friend. He was enchanted by her beauty from the first sight, he said: "When my eyes fell on her, I said to myself:" What a beautiful lady! " She was 22 and she hadn’t spent a lot of time in Jordan, because she grew up in Kuwait and moved to Jordan during the Gulf war.”
He tried to call her, but she did not reply. She told him: “I heard things about you,” so he interrupted her saying: “I did not introduce myself as an angel, but half of what you heard is just empty rhetoric.” She concluded: “I’ll think about it. "
The monarch "did not lose hope, so he asked a mutual friend to show her his good intentions, however she refused to go out with him ". His friend mentioned that Rania loves chocolate, so he returned and sent her a box of Belgian chocolate. So she accepted his invitation to have a dinner in November, when he surprised her with a meal he cooked himself.
"Things evolved and we began to talk more and go out together. On January 30, I invited Rania to dinner for my birthday, where my father sat next to her, and was amazed by her beauty and intelligence. He called that night, and asked me: When do you want me to meet her parents?"
"I took Rania to one of the best places; a mountain at the outskirts of Amman: Tal Al-Rumman, When we got off the car, I told her: I see our relationship taking a serious turn, and our marriage is a good idea. I smiled, and she stayed silent. I took this silence as a yes. We visited her parents after two weeks. "

He continued: "During the visit, which Rania's parents thought it was a regular one, her mother offered coffee and sweets to my father, who did not drink; according to our traditions in Jordan, when you are proposing to a girl, the head of family takes the cup of coffee but does not drink from it until her family accepts the proposal. In case of rejection, he doesn’t drink at all as a way of responding."
Finally, the King’s father turned to Rania’s dad and got his approval on the marriage.
