Nails trend this season: the colored French manicure. A specialist in nail beauty tells us how to achieve this trendy manicure at home and prolong the life of the nail polish to the maximum.
The French manicure has been reinvented this season with a touch of originality: the nail is lined with colored polish. "This trend is part of a global phenomenon in makeup that encourages wearing more and more colors," declared Alexandra Falba, O.P.I. manicure expert. "This look is a good way to dare flashier shades without painting the entire nail. It's also a good excuse to try nail art without sporting a style that's too extravagant or difficult to achieve," she added. This vitaminized variation has already seduced many celebrities, from Kaia Gerber to Beyoncé, through Dua Lipa or Heidi Klum.
Monochromatic or multicolored?
On social networks, where tutorials and models abound to try it, it is mainly declined in two ways. The first, in monochrome version or by playing the cameo of colors: "We choose the same color range and we apply them on each finger, from the lightest to the darkest shade," described Alexandra Falba, who suggested to choose among a color chart of pinks, oranges or beiges for the fall: "For example, we start with a sandy varnish, followed by a caramel, then a light brown, etc.. It's very subtle and easy to wear.
For a daring manicure, you can try the second rainbow version, by opting for five different colors. Pastel, sparkling or fluorescent versions: it's up to each of you to make it your own.
The technique
- First, varnish the free edge of the nail without worrying about drawing a perfect curve.
- Then, dip a small, flat cat-tongue lip brush into nail polish remover
- Wring out the bristles lightly and touch up the tip of the French from the inside to clarify the line
- Add a top coat on top
This work that requires a minimum of skill and patience deserves the utmost attention. "Since the color is applied only to the tip and not to the entire nail, this manicure is a bit fragile," warned Alexandra Falba. The pro tip to make it last as long as possible? "When applying the color, also pass the brush over the edge of the nail. Same thing with the top coat," advises the expert. "This allows to lock the color on the three dimensions of the nail and avoid that it flakes too quickly. After three days, don't hesitate to put a layer of top coat on top to prolong the hold." This is what ensures a clean result for five to six days "without a problem."
